or Newark, New Jersey Principal is changing he Narrative in his Community.

“We need our village to come back and be involved with our children and stop the selfish mentality. Today, our children need, more than ever, the village to reach success.” – Akbar Cook.

Principal Akbar Cook is meeting the basic and academic needs of his students. During the 2018 school year, Principal cook was making routine phone calls home to inquire about students missing school day.  it’s during this time he discovered several, west side high students where opting to stay home rather than coming to School and being mocked by their peers for wearing dirty clothes.  Principal Cook went into immediate action, with acquired funding (Foundation) he converted a utility room into a Laundry area for student use.  Something many of us might take for granted, or often complain about doing “Laundry” was the start of changing the narrative in this New Jersey community.

When I asked Principal cook to share some tips on how he developed such an organic relationship with the students in his community, he said “You have to be Consistent, Positive and Fair and they respect that “.   To hear more about  West Side High Academic initiatives  and the work Principal Cook is doing  follow  Principal Akbark Cook on Instagram   https://www.instagram.com/principal_akbar/
