Solages- COVID-19 Update for Wednesday 4/8/2020

Today, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced there are 1,938 new cases of COVID-19 and over 4,000 residents have been tested between yesterday and today.
However, Nassau County hospitals are seeing a glimmer of hope as more patients are being discharged than those newly admitted due to COVID-19. The County Executive also revealed that the number of COVID-19 patients on ventilators decreased for the first time yesterday. This hopefully shows a trend that we are in the “plateau.”

Any resident who is showing symptoms of COVID-19 should self-quarantine and call their doctor or 888-364-3065 immediately to set up testing. If you believe you are sick, do not call 911, visit your doctor or emergency room without calling first.

County Executive Curran and Governor Cuomo discussed new data released by the state regarding ethnicities affected most by COVID-19. New York State has released data from 90% of the counties outside of New York City, which shows that Hispanic and African American residents represent a higher percentage of the fatalities than they do total percentage of the population.

The County Executive has requested data from the state for just Nassau County, so those numbers can be explored more in depth. This is an issue I wrote to the Governor and County Executive about last week and I am grateful that it is now being investigated.
The County Executive reported that New York Blood Center will be reaching out to those who have recovered from COVID-19 for blood and plasma donation to find a treatment for research into possible treatments. Please note this is not a scam, however, please do not give out any confidential information such as social security numbers over the phone.

All Hands and Hearts, a not-for-profit organization, is raising funds to provide necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers on the frontlines of COVID-19. Anyone interested in donating to this cause can click Here.

As I continue to update each day, I also want to ensure that residents remain aware of important information from previous updates

I remind residents that, due to the Governor’s and County Executive’s guidelines, my office continues to work remotely. If you have concerns, or in need of something, you can call my office at (516)571-6203, or email at

I would like to close by wishing a safe and Joyous Pesach to all who celebrate. With Passover and other holidays being affected by this pandemic, I urge residents to use technology to celebrate with your loved ones during this time, while continuing to stay safe through social distancing.
