Sylvester Gardine saw a challenge when it came to drawing blood for the immune-compromised and to people who need more schedule flexibility.

That’s why in 2019 the Smithtown man launched VeniStat Mobile Lab Services.

His company, which is based on Long Island, provides a broad-spectrum of phlebotomy services at home.

His idea quickly picked up steam and began serving clients all throughout New York state, as well as nationwide.

And then the pandemic hit.

“As a mobile company, I had to find a new way of meeting that demand,” said Gardine, a graduate from SUNY Buffalo with a degree in molecular biology.

That’s when he switched gears and began doing COVID-19 tests, in addition to his current services.

“We know that social distancing is one of the most important factors to get us through this,” said the Brentwood High School alum. “With one of our professionals coming to your home in a PPE, we can limit the number of people that they’re around.”

VeniStat offers the PCR test, antibody test, and rapid antigen test, among other services.

“Our PCR results come back in less than 24-hours,” said Gardine. “Most other labs have to wait three to seven days for results. Our antigen test has results in less than 10 minutes.”

When travel restrictions hit, Gardine said his business became popular with people who are traveling for work and leisure.

He said people can call 24 hours in advance or book online and his company will provide medical personnel at their doorstep the next day.

“It’s about reputation and making sure you efficiently do your job,” said Gardine on his company’s success.

A total of ten certified phlebotomists and medical personnel from national programs from the country provide testing services.

“I’m proud to be the face of a Brentwood graduate that has been granted the opportunity to work with some of the most prestigious laboratories nationwide,” said Gardine. “We are reaching coast to coast; it’s been interesting, to stay the least.”
